She Listens!

I've just read in a parenting booklet that, around the age of 12 months, babies/toddlers should be able to understand and follow simple directions. Gwen is a free spirit and most of the time just does her own thing. I sometimes think that everything I'm trying to teach her goes in one ear and out the other.....until a couple of weeks ago (sorry, I've waited so long to blog about it). We've been trying to get Gwen to fold her arms when we pray at meal times. It was really tough at first, because we had to fold Gwen's arms for her and she DID NOT like that. But then, ONE MAGICAL DAY, I said "Okay Gwen, it's time to pray! Fold your arms!" and she DID!! All by herself! It was the cutest thing. She is getting better and better at folding her arms, and now we don't have to even cue her to fold her arms! When we sit down to eat for any meal (or snack),  Gwen automatically folds her arms. Tanner and I cried the first time she did it on her own without a cue. I guess she really is listening to what we are trying to teach her. Now we just have to get her to close her eyes for the prayer, like this cute little guy....

Yup, that's Tanner for you. So obedient.

Until then, I can be satisfied with just the arm folding. Next step is to get her to fold her arms in church, thus far it hasn't transfered to any thing other than meal times. But I'm not complaining, after all she's only 14 months old, right?

  1. That's awesome Jenny! It's so fun to watch them learn. Camilla has just started folding her arms after hymns at church because she thinks it's time for a prayer. 2/5 times she's usually right ;) Excited for you guys though!!

  2. Camilla is such an awesome girl. I think that the whole thing to get Gwen to fold her arms started when I read your blog about Camilla praying by her bed at night. I thought "Man! Gwen doesn't even fold her arms, let alone all the arms of her stuffies!" You are such an example to us :)
