It would be lovely to write that the new bed is for Tanner and I, but alas, we are poor and ours still does the job.
The new bed is for Gwen. A toddler bed. I know, I know. You are probably thinking: "Isn't Gwen only 17 months old? Isn't she just a bit young?" My sister tries to keep her kids in a crib for as long as possible. Sometimes even the age 3. But, here is my reasoning.
- Right now, we only have one child. I would hate to have to coerce Gwen into a bed when her new little sister gets to sleep in a comfy crib right next to mommy. So unfair.
- Although Gwen isn't big enough to climb out of her crib, her limbs are getting pretty long. More and more often we find Gwen's appendages hanging out. Like last week, when Gwen woke up from her nap crying because her foot was caught in between the rungs.
- (HOPEFULLY) We will be moving across country in the fall when Tanner (HOPEFULLY) starts school again. With all the changes and transitions that will happen at that time, we decided we take care of the bed situation. One less thing to worry about, right?
- Toddler beds are just too cute, and
- I'm impatient.
I bought the bed yesterday, via Kijiji, and set it up last night. (Thanks be to Tanner, my sweet husband, for taking down the mammoth crib with a bazillion stubborn screws. I love you, and your manly skills.) It is so darn cute, and Gwen loves her little sized bed! She likes to sit on the bed and "read" her books.
Today's nap wasn't quite as successful, but I never expected things to go without a hitch. That would be a miracle.
Here's hoping tonight goes well!
Jenny

Sometimes the switch is a long road, but totally worth it in the end. I think Camilla was 18 months or so when we did it (pre-move/pre-baby). So worth it! Good luck!
