Ants on a Log

Gwen ate Ants on a Log for the first time today.
She thought it was a pretty fun snack
and loved the celery, peanut butter, raisin combination.

While she chomped away I couldn't help but think
of a Jeopardy episode I watched when I was 15 years old.

The contestants were all around 10 years old
and were answering questions, like:

Q: The one word uttered by Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven".

A: What is "Nevermore".

I was sitting there, a grade 10 student, thinking "I'm stupid".

But then the kids got this question:

Q: To make Ants on a Log, fill a celery stalk with cream cheese
or peanut butter & top with these dried fruits.

I remember the feeling of my jaw dropping when this simple
question became a TRIPLE STUMPER!

Raisins! Raisins! Raisins!

Ants on a Log is like the quintessential childhood snack!
Those poor deprived genius children.

I don't care if Gwen never learns what the word velocipede means
(which was the Final Jeopardy question)
but by darn she will know what Ants on a Log is.
