Today I did some de-junking. We have this hallway closet and bathroom vanity that LOVE to attract junk, expired medication??, and lotion. The hallway closet, in particular, is SO cluttered with said nonsense that we couldn't see
one of the
10 bars of soap, causing us to buy a case at Costco. (I swear, one entire shelf has to be dedicated to just soap now.) Anyways, I went through both the closet and bathroom vanity, going through EVERYTHING. Things like I-can't-even-remember-the-last-time-I-used-this! were quickly and easily thrown away. All the while I couldn't help but think of Toy Story 2 (we've been watching it a lot lately), when Jessie recalled being forgotten and then thrown away (or donated) by her owner. I'm embarrassed to admit that I was even singing Sarah McLachlan's "When She Loved Me" in my head during the process. I thought about how sad all my old watches, bracelets, and makeup must be to be thrown away. We had had some good times. But really, expired medication!? Who keeps antibiotics and T3s from their post-knee-surgery 5 years ago!? Apparently
I do. It was really surprising to see how much stuff I had kept for so long. Just for fun, I weighed the bag of..... well...... crap. (Sorry Mom, I know how you don't like it when I use that word.)
17lbs!
Man, it feels good! Here's to never letting more than 3 bottles of lotion in the house. Here's to letting go of things I never use. Here's to keeping things organized. Here's to not having to buy bar soap for 6 months.
Do you have any spaces that could use a good de-junking? You'll be happy you did!
You've inspired me. Thanks Jenny! You are amazing!
