So, yesterday evening we experienced our first trip to the emergency room as parents of the patient. Gwen fell onto a glass cup that was on the living room floor, and cut herself just above her left eye. The glass didn't break, just the shear force of her falling cut through her skin. Needless to say, she cried a whole bunch. So sad. We didn't realize how deep the cut was at first and thought some polysporin and a band-aid would do it. However, after a closer inspection the cut seemed pretty deep, Tanner and I decided to take Gwen to the emergency room as it was late and all the clinics in the neighborhood were closed. We went to the Alberta Children's Hospital, and.....it was actually kind of nice! All the patients were 18 years old or younger, so there were no bums, alcoholics, crazy prostitutes, or old smokers. All the nurses were super friendly, too. Gwen was also in a really good mood and was laughing and smiling the whole time, which made the experience a little less negative. We were there for only an hour, and Gwen didn't have to get stitches! YAY! The nurse closed up the cut with Steri-strips, which will help the cut heal and will fall off in a few days. Gwen is doing really well today and seems pretty much un-phased by the strips above her eye. She is such a tough girl :)
Oh! She looks like such a little girl with her headband!! Cuts are hard to estimate for stitches! Mark cut himself on Valentines Day last year...I'll never forget it! I'm glad you had a good experience!
ReplyDeletescary story, *adorable* head band!!
ReplyDeleteYikes! We still have not had to go to the Emergency with Gid. *knock on wood* It's his father that we have to worry about and keep an eye on. Gwen looks even more adorable. Is that possible?
