We've had a great summer. It has been busy and full and involved lots of driving. Driving to Innisfail. Driving to Red Deer. Driving to Waterton. Driving to Fairmont. Driving to Jasper. Driving to the zoo. Driving to the spray park (I got a speeding ticket on one of these trips. Poo.)
We've certainly enjoyed these summer months.
I'd have to say though, that the best moment of summer happened August 30. 'Twas the last day of my paper route. After 7 months of delivering papers each.and.every.morning. I threw my last pape at 4:23 am on August 30. I really loved my paper route and there are parts about it I still miss. Don't ask me which parts, but parts are missed. I think I would have continued doing it if it weren't for a couple of reasons :
1. I haven't been paid for delivering papers since June. Apparently there has been some fishy illegal stuff going on with the private contractor in charge of distribution/payroll . . . . but I'll post more on this later when more unfolds.
2. We found out I was pregnant beginning of August and I was definitely more fatigued and tired during the day. I could no longer sacrifice 2.5 hours of sleep each night. More on this further on in the post.
So, September arrived and school started for Tanner, FINALLY! Tanner is now going to school full-time at U of C. He has several more years to go - 2 years to finish his undergrad and then 2 (maybe 3) years doing a masters in architecture. We are so grateful for his time spent so far at Gibb Gage Architects. I know that Tanner will certainly miss his office people during the school year, and is looking forward to working there as a student architect each summer. We got it so good : )
With Tanner into full time studies, and myself no longer delivering papers, Tanner and I did some brainstorming on how our family could make extra income to help us financially survive the coming months. We didn't brainstorm very long as the best solution was pretty obvious : Dayhome! Starting a dayhome has been one of the best decisions I've made since moving to Calgary over two years ago. To start off, I was blessed to get the BEST family of three little girls in my home. They have made the decision to turn my house into a little dayhome/playschool so easy and most rewarding.
Gwen started preschool this year! I run the dayhome M W F, and then Tu Th Gwen goes to preschool. Isn't it perfect? Gwen's really enjoys preschool, but drop-off can sometimes be tricky. She gets a bit weepy and doesn't wanted me to go, but we are working on that. Yesterday, I found that giving her a little sheet of stickers to share really helped. They were for "kids only", as Gwen would say, and she would give a little sticker to the other little kids in her class. The stickers made the children smile and helped Gwen make friends.
Lily, it seems, is always sick. She is always getting a cough, or and ear infection, or a runny nose. Despite not always being in top health, Lily is a pretty happy kid. She toddles all over the house following Gwen and the dayhome girls. Despite her size, she gets right into the action with them, and holds her own.
So, I know earlier I mentioned me being pregnant, and now I am going to elaborate. Tanner and I were very excited to find out we were pregnant again with baby #3. I was due mid April. Unfortunately, earlier this week I miscarried and we lost the baby. We don't know why it happened, sometimes it just happens. Obviously we are devastated, but we won't allow it to leave us knocked down. God knows who we are and knows what the future has in store for our family. I'll be in recovery mode for the next few days/weeks - physically, mentally, emotionally - but I know that I am going to be alright.
All I need to do now is pray, smile, and put my feet up.
Everything is going to be alright.
Everything is going to be alright.
So sorry to hear that Jenny....you'll be in our thoughts and prayers. And SO exciting about Tanner staring school! That'll be awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteI delivered papers FOR YEARS as a kid. Although I missed the fat paycheques I left behind (ie: $3 / day or whatever) I was sooooooo glad not to be waking up so early when I finally left it behind. Then I started seminary. What? At least seminary was indoors and warm... with occasional donuts.
ReplyDeleteYour misfortune makes me think about our similar experience last year. It still makes me sad, even though it wasn't in our plans to have another one in the first place. Sigh. Get better soon.
Hope your feeling okay Jenny, I have been there done that! It is certainly no fun, but it all happens for a reason. Take care cuddle your babies lots! Glad the rest of your summer was so good, and that you get to be home with your girls all the time! Hugs and prayers.
ReplyDeleteSoo sorry to hear Jenny. You definitely deserve some time to put your feet up! Feel better soon, you guys are in our thoughts and prayers! :)
