Gwen's First Bank

This spring/summer we finally realized that we should be depositing our bottles and milk jugs rather than just recycling them. It's become our special thing we do with Gwen. She loves to carry in the bag full of bottles and to watch the Bottle Depot worker sort and count everything.

Each month we collect around $8.00 worth of bottles. It's not much, but it adds up!

This weekend I helped Gwen as she painted and created her very own money jar.
So far, Gwen has saved up $26.75
and we don't care what it is spent on - toys, movies, crafts, books, university?
Just as long as it's not blown on candy.

  1. Awesome Idea! I am definitely a fan of bottle money! It's like my allowance... I never even considered how fun it could be fore Camilla! Thanks for sharing Jenny!

  3. This is Scott's primary source of income. Any time he sees something that he wants us to buy (toys, golf clubs, etc), we say that he can buy it with his own money if he wants. His grandma gives him all her bottles too, so he is a regular little Ritchie Rich.

    1. I actually got the idea from you and R! I remember when Scott bought himself a Buzz toy with the money he saved. Children are never too young to learn the value of money and saving.

  4. Grant has already earned himself a toy excavator from Costco with his own money (he has to pay tithing on the money he earns from doing chores though!)
