This weekend we celebrated Gwen's birthday with her little cousins Isaac, Evee, Jasper, and Grace. (Baby Charlie was here as well, but was perhaps a little too little for any actual partying). It was a really fun afternoon full of games, dress-up, snacks, presents, dancing, and popcorn balls.
The birthday decoration theme ended up being all about COLOUR. There were rainbow banners and balloons for decorations, as well as a gallery wall of Gwen's paintings. Our table cloth also has some pretty bold colors, so when guests walked into the dinning room, they were like "Wow! Color!" My brother, Mark, was selected to be the model when I took a picture of the serving table as he had the brightest/boldest shirt.
I mean......wow.
The blank canvas you see on the wall was used for a craft/keepsake. Each of the kiddies had their hand painted and then put their hand print on the canvas. The kids LOVED this. We even had Charlie and Lily make their own hand print, which was pretty hard as they both still have the instinct to grasp when something touched their palm. The final product turned out pretty awesome, I think.
At the end of the day, I was very happy with the success of the party. Above all else, I wanted a party that would be fun for Gwen and the rest of the kids. And after several rounds of Duck Duck Goose and London Bridge, I feel we achieved said goal.
Today was Gwen's actual birthday. But since we had the big party on Saturday, today was pretty low key. We did, however, invite some friends of ours over for FHE. 2 of their 3 girls are in Nursery with Gwen at church, so they enjoyed singing/squealing/playing together while we all stuffed our faces with chocolate cupcakes. It was a fun evening.
At 2 years of age, Gwen:
- can pick out her own outfits, but still needs me to help her get dressed.
- can say all sorts of words (sort of), including:
- "odotter" - which is 'helicopter'
- "baper" - which could mean 'diaper' or 'Jasper' (her cousin) depending on it's context.
- "oh, boy!" - when something is exciting or interesting
- "what-it" - which, for some reason, is how she says 'blanket'
- "dirt" - which is 'church'
- "dily" - which is 'Lily' (This is by far my favorite thing she says).
- is wearing size 2T/3T clothing and size 7 shoes.
- loves to help clean up and put things away.
- sings along to songs, even when she doesn't know them.
- still sucks her thumb (and the 'cuteness factor' has now worn off).
- loves independent/imaginative play.
- is in love with Elmo and Buzz.
- calls kisses "mwah", because that's the sound you make when you give a kiss!
- 's favorite food is yogurt.
- jabbers on the phone with her dad and Grandma A.
- loves books.
- loves to run and to be chased by her dad, especially.
- still has a morning nap :)
- still isn't potty trained :(
- is a little bottle of energy who brings joy and happiness to my life.
I love you Gwen!
Thank you for making me a mother.
XOXOXOX
