Learning to Share

We are finding out that sharing for Gwen has a steep learning curve. She knows what sharing is, but she just can't get herself to performing the act. I have been babysitting a 3 year-old girl at our house for a few days,  and will be for the next two weeks. I am realizing that I haven't properly prepared Gwen for this.

After Tanner leaves for work, it's just me and Gwen. We're best buds. Lucky for her, I'm not too interested in playing with her blocks and tea set, unless it is with her of course. So, the idea of having to share HER toys with another little person has never entered her darkest dreams. The first day that her little "friend" came over was pretty rough for her. It was packed full of pushing, shoving, crying, biting, and more than a few complete meltdowns. It was lovely. Even when there was two of something, she would HAVE to have both of them or else her universe would totally collapse. On Thursday it was her two bears; each being as big as herself, she would insist on carrying them both around.

I really like babysitting this little girl as she is giving Gwen the chance to learn how to share in our home. But I feel bad that she has to be the test dummy (she wasn't too happy when Gwen bit her when she wanted her crayons). I will be babysitting her for the next couple of weeks and I am hoping that Gwen will figure out this whole sharing business by then. I hate to see Gwen so upset all the time. Bless the girl who has to put up with her. Until then....
