Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

Tanner and I have really enjoyed our time, thus far, in Calgary. Perhaps that it is just the situation that we find ourselves in here. Unlike Edmonton, where I was working and Tanner was going to school, Tanner and I have much more time to spend together. There are so many fabulous things to do here. So far we have been to the Zoo, Heritage Park, North Glenmore Park, Bowness Park, Korean Day Festival, Taste of Calgary, and much more. I never thought that I would end up here and I feel horrible for being so judgement towards Calgary for so many years. I am happy that we are here and proud to be a Calgarian.

This Saturday, Tanner's parents came up to visit us. We all went to the Calgary Zoo and had a fabulous day! The weather was SO perfect. Not hot. Not cold. The key to making a visit to the zoo is to go in the morning. If you leave it for the afternoon, it will be much more crowded and noisy. You may even be able to see some of the animals having their breakfast! In this case they will be out and about, instead of hiding in the back corner amongst tall grass, which is usually the case. This trip we got to see a lot of crazy stuff, like...

- a tiger marking his territory by spraying the perimeter fence where zoo patrons were standing. I've never seen a person move so fast. Gross.
- dozens and dozens of dead baby chicks laying out for the owl to eat in the Canadian Wilds. I almost cried, it was so sad.
- two monkeys singing to each other. It was so loud, you could hear them from across the park. It was pretty cool.

Tanner and I got a year pass for our family. Next time we go, Gwen will be older and will actually be aware of what she's looking at. She was just happy to be outside, and with her adoring fans, Grandma and Grandpa Allred. Here are a few pictures of our adventure. Enjoy!
