Navaho Tacos

Earlier this year (after I gave up on the whole clean eating thing),
I happened upon a most delicious recipe.

Navaho Tacos

Is there a more divine way to eat a taco?

No, there is not.

Basically its dough that's deep fried with taco toppings.

Here's the recipe:

3 cup flour
3/4 tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 cups milk
vegetable oil for frying
extra flour to flour your hands

Step One:
Heat vegetable oil in a heavy pot on medium heat. (2-3" deep?)
You can check if your oil is hot enough by dropping a piece of dough in the hot oil and seeing if it begins to fry. Ideal temp. is 350 degrees, if you have a thermometer.

Step Two:
Sift dry ingredients together in medium bowl.
Add milk and mix together until dough forms.
(Try not to over knead it.)

Step Three:
Divide dough into 12 portions.
Flour you hands an shape each ball into a disk of about 5-7" in diameter.

Step Four:
Take the formed dough and carefully place it into the oil
(you can do one or two at a time depending on the diameter of your pot).
Be careful not to splatter the hot oil! Wear an apron!
Fry each side until brown (approx 2-3 minutes on each side).
Place the cooked fry bread in a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

Step Five:
Serve hot with all your favourite taco toppings!

FOR DESSERT
Spread some honey butter onto some warm fry bread.
You can also sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.

So divine!

Here's me with some hot and fresh fry bread!
This pic was taken the Sunday before June's was born, still preggers.

We've made it a tradition that whenever we make navaho tacos we invite Abraham and Susan over for dinner. And I mean EVERY TIME. It's awesome.

Now go and make some Navaho Tacos for yourself!

Unless, of course, you're dieting.
In that case, deep fried dough would be something to keep off your weekly meal plan.
Sorry.
